2007 Alternative Cycling Festival and OzHPV Challenge

Saturday, 31st March & Sunday, 1 April, 2007

Casey Fields, Cranbourne, Victoria

As we announced in the last newsletter, AUS members are invited to take
part in the 2007 Alternative Cycling Festival and Australian Human-Powered Vehicle Association (OzHPV) Challenge, at Casey Fields, Cranbourne, Victoria. The event is generating a lot of interest and it looks like being a very successful, fun couple of days.

Unicyclists can enter the challenge events, for which a modest entry fee applies (see website). We're hoping a unicycle will sweep the slalom! Any unicyclists wanting to do a demonstration of skills (ie. hockey, basketball, freestyle, street or extreme unicycling etc) are also welcome.

Event info is constantly being updated on the OzHPV website and the Casey Fields website.

Max Pfeifer and Rod Lambert will be on-site representing the AUS, and Bikebox will have their range of unicycle.com unicycles available to try out..

Re: cheap unicycles sent in by Steven Reichard

Just a quick note to anyone that has purchased a Pro Circus unicycle from a well known internet auction site. I bought 3 (hey they were really cheap) for my girlfriend to learn to ride. I put the first one together and took it for a test ride down the driveway (which is quite steep) and wham! I was on my backside before I knew what had happened.

Second try, same thing but this time I realised what had gone wrong. The axle turns in the hub! Into the shed and a well placed spot of weld solves the problem. This was the case with all of them. Oh and GF is going quite well after just two weeks - just have to convince her to let go of the wall!

ACT takes on Sydney in unicycle hockey tournament

ACT+Sydney Hockey Players

On Sunday 18 March, ACTURS members from the ACT (plus ring-ins from Wollongong) took on team Sydney in a friendly interstate hockey match. Amid cheers and jeers from supporters, more than 20 riders played around a dozen matches, with unicycle hockey emerging as the clear winner on the day!

Note: Sydney unicyclists play hockey every Sunday morning at the Lillian Fowler Reserve in Newtown, NSW, bully off at 10.30am. All levels of unicyclists welcome.

AUS Membership Renewals

The AUS is a non-profit organisation - membership fees go towards the public liability insurance which allows us to support official events, and also to help support the Uninats (Sydney 2007!), which will cost several thousand dollars in up-front booking fees!

AUS membership runs from 1st July to 30th June each year. If you haven't attended an AUS or affiliate event since 1st July, you probably haven't renewed your AUS membership yet for 2006/2007. (Membership from Darwin 2005 expired 30th June 2006). Details on membership renewals, pricing and the application form on the membership page.
