Riding and Hockey at Sydney Spring Cycle


Sunday 19 October 2008


Ride in the Spring Cycle event or come and entertain with your uni skills at Olympic Park in Sydney on Sunday 19 October. The Spring Cycle is one of Sydney's most popular rides. There are four routes to choose from: Ride North Sydney (40km), Ride The Park (7km), Ride Liverpool (20km), Ride Blacktown all finishing at Olympic Park, Homebush.


Sydney Unicycle Hockey will be playing a demonstration match on the Olympic concourse at 1pm till 2pm. The organisers are also planning on doing a live cross to the hockey demonstration, so people can watch it on the big screen. If you want to join in the game, bring a red and black T-shirt!

Unicycle Trials at Sydney Bicycle Film Festival

If you are a keen unicycle trials rider, Sydney Bicycle Film Festival is building a trials course at the Newtown Festival, and is inviting the AUS to select riders to participate.

If you are keen to ride, contact the AUS Secretary ASAP with your contact details. This should be a blast, with a big crowd ready to be wowed by your skills!

Unicycle Hockey - Sydney Bicycle Film Festival

Don't forget that unicyclists are invited to participate in the Sydney Bicycle Film Festival festivities in November this year. Unicyclists are welcome to participate in all events - but make sure you come along to the Street Parade and after at Sydney Park for Unicycle Hockey and what should be an epic match between the Unicycle Hockey players and Sydney Bicycle Polo!

Uninats, Easter 2009, Wollongong, NSW


Planning for Uninats 2009, Australia's biannual national unicycling championships, is well underway. Beautiful Wollongong will play host to Uninats during the Easter long weekend (Friday 10 - Monday 13 April 2009). Venues and schedules are still being finalised and we will get further news to you as it comes to hand. See you there!


Unicon XV


Don't forget UNICON XV, the next Unicycling World Championships and Convention, is in Wellington, New Zealand from 27 December 2009 to 7 Jan 2010! See the Unicon XV website for details and to register.

Unicon XIV


Copenhagan rocks! So yeah, it's true UNICON XIV was amazing. Gorgeous weather, beautiful countryside, beer pong and so much awesome unicycling!! Highlights included:


Adrien Delacroix's unicycle somersault off the pallet stack

The Japanese group freestyle

Hockey!

and also the line up for the ambulance following the mountain uni and the level 11 workshops!

Huge congratulations to the Australian competitors:



  • Ashley Curtis' 14 race results were all Australian records, including the 100m in 0:15.86, 400m in 1:07.48, 800m in 2:24.33, and 10km standard in 31:46.90.


    With the only Australian medal of the meet, Ashley took third place in the 10km standard 18-29 age group. Fantastic work!


  • Matthew Price also got Australian records in the 40+ age group: 400m in 1:17.09, and 10km standard in 38:10.90.


  • Congratulations to the Australian hockey team, Ashley, Cris, David, Jan and Matt. The team came 14th in the A league.

Melbourne Juggling Convention


A huge congrats to Christian Parr for organising a fantastic event that was the Melbourne Juggling Convention 08. The Convention attracted 224 participants, including 71 unicyclists. Many thanks to Cris for organising unicyclist registrations, Karin for staffing the desk, to David and Lorinda for the skills testing, Cassie and Julian for organising great unicycling games and thanks to everyone for taking part! Hope you all had a heap of fun.


The public show was a sell out experience , with an epic 3-hour extravaganza! Photos available to view here, here and here.


Unicycling the Himalayas for charity


Debbie from the Northern Territory has written in to let us know about Steve Colligan who is doing an amazing journey on a unicycle. On 23rd September 2008, Steve left Britain to unicycle across the Roof of the World, from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, via Everest Base Camp. Steve is undertaking the ride, a distance of 1000km (620 miles), for a Nepali charity working to develop educational opportunities for children and their families, including health education, in a remote part of Nepal. IUF rulebook review


The International Unicycling Federation rulebook is up for review. If anyone has any strong suggestions for rule changes, they should contact David Buchanan immediately, who will review them and summarise Australia's position to the IUF committee. Ride the Apple Isle


Fancy a long ride through beautiful Tasmania? One of Australia's champion junior unicyclists, Aubin Gill, is planning to unicycle from Launceston to Hobart over 4-5 days next year (date to be confirmed). He is looking for other unicyclists who are interested in joining him for some or all of the trip. The ride will be part of a school project and Aubin hopes to raise funds for charity, as well as drawing some media attention to the event. If you are interested in joining in this ride, then contact the AUS and we will pass on your details.
